the role

This is anything but your average retail role, yes you will be responsible for stocking the shelves, serving customers and keeping the shop tidy but here at Archie Browns you will have the opportunity to offer much more! Here you will confidently communicate with customers to provide the advice and products that help them lead happy and healthy lives. Its not easy, but if you have a passion for health and wellbeing here is an amazing experience up for grabs!

Other responsibilities include:

  • Serving at the till

  • Keeping all areas of the shop and stockroom well-presented and clean

  • Receiving deliveries and keeping shelves well stocked

  • Dealing with customer complaints

  • Helping in the café when required

essential requirements

  • availability to work at least every other Saturday

  • understanding of natural health and supplementation with a drive to learn more through the role.

café assistant - Penzance (Fridays and Saturdays)

  the role

​We are looking for someone to join our wonderful team at archie browns Penzance to help run the newly re-opened café on Fridays and Saturdays. This is a great opportunity to work in a community focussed front of house role in an uplifting environment. To work in a front-of-house role you must be able to learn systems quickly and effectively with a positive and calm attitude. You will need to be kind, confident and respectful when communicating with customers and peers.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serving at the till (cash handling and taking orders)

  • Serving food and drinks to tables

  • Barista – Making a range of high quality hot drinks using espresso machine

  • Keeping all areas of the café and appliances well-presented and clean

  • Ensuring the café is well stocked

  • Assisting in the kitchen when required

about you

  • Café experience including barista skills preferred but training can be provided for the right person

the opportunity

Do you have a passion for affordable, healthy, local and sustainable vegan/vegetarian food with the drive to develop and run a café within a vibrant community? If so this is an amazing opportunity for you!

Archie Browns vegetarian café started in 1991 on Bread Street in Penzance and has grown to incorporate health food stores in both Penzance and Truro. Unfortunately due to the impact on the world and specifically the hospitality industry from the pandemic the cafés had to close. In Penzance we are finally at a place to reincorporate the café and looking for the right person to do so. The café is currently only open Fridays and Saturdays, we are looking for someone to increase the opening days but we are flexible to fit for the right person (option for 3-6 days a week).

While it is important your mission aligns with archie browns there is plenty of room for you to get creative and really flourish.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Creating a business plan to develop the café with the support of the general manager

  • General day to day running of the café 

    • Designing menus

    • Supervising and carrying out food preparation ensuring clean and safe practices

    • Sourcing ingredients - local and organic where possible

    • Recruitment

    • Organising events and catering opportunities

    • etc.
